Welcome to the FTTH Council Europe

FTTH Council Explores New Regions

The FTTH Council Europe is beginning to explore its current geographic boundaries by reaching out to the new democracies that were formerly part of the Soviet Union, the nearby regions of the Middle-East and parts of Africa. While this is by no means a new official remit, it is a long-term aim of the Council to see how we can provide value and insight within these new territories and in return learn from their FTTH projects, with their own difficulties, without diluting our current work.

Japan Gets 1 Gbps FTTH

Japanses alternative operator KDDI hopes to steal a march on NTT (which ‘owns’ around 70% of the FTTH userbase in Japan) by launching a services that will offer a symmetrical 1 Gbps to households in eastern Japan. The service will cost around 5,985 Yen – that’s €40  - per month.

Signapore Gets Passive Aggressive

Singapore, the Asian city-state with a reputation for far-thinking industrial policy, has announced the details of its highly ambitious National Broadband Network. The network is founded on a particularly radical model of structural separation – with no less than four cleanly divided strata –  and underpinned by an open, passive infrastructure.
